Every action, every word, every decision of a leader is noticed, evaluated and often repeated by lower level employees preparing themselves for advance. At the same time, leaders are dedicated to develop others to accept greater responsibility as they advance in their career. Because you are in the spotlight, as a leader you are in an ideal position to be a Mentor.
What is a Mentor? An individual capable of assuming a role of instructor, guide and supporter. Many describe the role as identifying and monitoring the development of a selected group of high potential employees.
Leaders are role models. As an executive moves up within an organization, much less time is invested in actual ‘doing’ work. The day-to-day activities that keep the business running are the responsibility of the people who report to them. Project implementation and the operation of the business is delegated to individuals on multiple levels within the firm: each task assigned to the person best equipped and assigned to perform the specific duties required.
Workshop Participants will learn how to:
- Create an environment of trust
- Establish rapport with those seeking guidance
- Develop empathy for others
- Guide others to achieve their potential
- Identify the personal needs of others
- Recognize the best learning environment for the individual
- Engage others with confidence and confidentiality
- Share your story/history as an experienced role model
The role of the leader is to present a vision
that others will support.
The MTM Leaders as Mentors workshop will guide your leaders to recognize their role as models and provide the tools that prepare them to respond to the needs of younger employees.
